Ok, so I suppose the purpose of this blog was to depict the ups and downs of travelling and unfortuntely today is a definate low. Last night while i was sleeping i had my beautiful old German camera stolen from under my nose. It was literally 5cm max from my face. Of course, Katie had given it to me as a gift.
It was really my only valued pocession so insurance is really no condolence, but, Dad, anything we can do? I went to the police station and all that.
Ok, so sorry about that. I'll go back to staring off into the distance.

David .. Very sorry to read about the camera. I know how the stomach must be churning and the mind is thinking if only .. . I will make enquiries today and ring you tonight (Wed morn your time). Did you get a copy of any written report when you reported it to the police? You should also get some document which shows that you reported it to the hostel. Check any pawnshops nearby.

I got a cold shiver up my spine when I read that - so sorry. I remember how bad I felt when I lost my glasses overseas - but those could be replaced. I definitely agree with Dad and think you should check any pawn shops around the place - maybe any market stalls - what about camera places (to see if anyone had asked about how to use it etc)?? I will fund the price of buying the camera back if you can find it. Surely the person stole it for monetary reasons and not because they collect old cameras.
Just think about all those old cameras you will be able to buy when you are a famous movie director (but I know nothing can replace this one).

Yeah so i got a report from the police. Not too sure if i can get one from the hostel. Apparently a girl had an ipod, credit cards, passport, travelers cheques, etc stolen in a similar fashion a few nights prior, The zippers with all those things were opened on my bag too, lucky it was dark i spose. yeah...lucky... I even sort of 'checked myself' to see if i'd been given anything or something i.e. drugged; how can i sleep through that? it was right there!
I also went to an antique store around the corner and they had about 4 of the same type of camera...the heart skipped a beat when i saw that brown case, 4 times no less but a-las, none were mine. Could be good though if the insurance story is good...but when is it ever?
I'm to an area with antiques and stuff tomorrow so i'll keep my eye out.

I am so sorry to hear you have been victim to overseas travellers crime.
I hope you can find it again. Lucky it was dark. I dont know what the chances are but i really hope you find it.
I know the feeling of having something you love stolen or damaged.

I strive on of course, nothing like some little grub-low-life glorified backstabber will get me distracted from the rest of my planned wonderful trip.
Montreal is wonderful as is expected; America with a lot of French speakers works well and no arrogance or stuck-up-ness has been witnessed; a stereotype to the endth degree.
